Therapy for Children and Families

For New Mothers and Their Babies:

I have received training in infant mental health and can be helpful in establishing a strong responsive bond between mother and child.  Whether you feel overwhelmed by the prospect of mothering your new baby or simply want some help in creating a strong, secure attachment, I can be of assistance.

For Pre-school and Elementary School Age Children:

No one provides a manual for how to raise a child. Many parents fly by the seat of their pants until things become unbearable. Parents beat themselves up for not being perfect. I am experienced and trained in work with children and parents who are experiencing attachment struggles, issues relating to traumatic events, as well as grief and loss related to divorce or other family losses. Additionally, I work with behavioral problems that occur in the home, school, and social environments. My office is set up with children in mind.   I use their means of communication to facilitate change and healing. My preferred method is to work directly with both you and the child to promote the desired connection and skills. Individual sessions last 50 minutes, and are commonly recommended weekly.

For Adolescents:

Adolescents often want to connect but instead act out or push parents away because they don’t know how to get their needs met.  Parents are asked to shift from the role of manager to the role of consultant but they don’t always trust that their children are ready.  I have experience helping adolescents sort through the pressures and challenges while supporting efforts to keep parents connected.

For Families:

At any stage along the journey, families can run into knots of tension – whether it be sibling rivalry, financial strain, the challenges relating to a college launch, a death or illness in the family.  The stress can feel overwhelming and isolating.  I  understand family dynamics and am experienced in helping families navigate the hard times.
